Welcome to our School Area

The School Buildings

Set in a quiet residential area, Southfield Community Primary School was built in the 1960s. It has a large, central hall which is used for assemblies, PE and as a dining room. Surrounding the hall are seven classrooms, one of which is used as an extra room for teaching children in small groups and occasionally a place for parents to meet for family learning activities and courses or to meet confidentially with the School Nurse. There are separate offices for the head teacher, the school secretary and a staff room. Our refurbished and computerised library provides an easily accessible area for independent learning.

We have recently refurbished a classroom as a food technology area. This gives the children first class facilities to enable them to learn about basic cooking skills and healthy eating’. Our Friends of Southfield School, (F.O.S.S.) have worked hard to raise funds to provide an attractive and adventurous ‘Trim Trail for our large field. There is a kitchen where meals are freshly cooked on a daily basis.

We also have three classrooms for two classes in Reception and KS1. This enables us to provide creative afternoons and additional learning areas where children can work together as an early years group.

Outside there are two playgrounds and a large playing field with wooded area. The school has an attractive pond and wildlife area. There is also a new gardening facility for children, where each class has their own area to grow different produce and flowers.

There is also an independently owned Family Centre, Nursery and Before and After School provision on the school site, 'The Ark Family Centre'. The Ark also provides holiday childcare and activities for primary school children in the school holiday. We are therefore able to meet the Government's target of offering quality childcare provision for 8am to 6pm during the school terms and holidays.
